Grandview-Woodland

Grandview is one of, if not the most culturally diverse neighborhoods in Vancouver. It rests between the Burrard Inlet (North) & Broadway (South) and between Clark Dr. (West) & Nanaimo St. (East). Grandview's growth into the melting pot it is today dates back to the end of World War 1, when many Italian, Chinese, and Eastern European immigrants arrived in the area. After World War 2 many more Italians immigrated to the area and Grandview was then commonly referred to as 'Little Italy'. More recently a large percentage of the Italian population has moved east to North Burnaby and the area has become more Latin influenced, but many of the Italian restaurants and cafes remain. The area is mostly residential; rows of cottage style houses mixed with a few larger elaborate houses line the streets. There are very few apartment buildings in the area.

Commercial Drive is the heart and soul of Grandview. The Drive, as it is often referred to as, is home to some of Vancouver?s best ethnic restaurants, cafes, and food stores. As well, many of Vancouver's local artists and designers live and work in and around Commercial Drive, giving the culturally diverse community a funky and energetic feel. This diversity gives Grandview a unique feel unmatched anywhere else in Vancouver.
