New Westminster

New Westminster is in the middle of the lower mainland and locals like to say that it is 20 minutes away from everywhere. It is built on a hillside along the Fraser River with beautiful views of the river and mountains and it is surrounded by Burnaby (Northwest) Coquitlam (Northeast) & Surrey (South). New Westminster was British Columbia's first capital city (1860-1868) and was given the name 'Royal City' by Queen Victoria and is sometimes still referred to as such.

Much of New Westminster's historic past has been saved and restored over the years and many heritage houses and buildings remain as they once did over 100 years ago, giving the city a bit of an old time charm. New West is not just a historical city, it like the rest of the lower mainland has been going through a housing boom. New condos and high rises have been and are being built all over the city with the more desirable properties being constructed along the Fraser River. The city centre is along the river and many of the more popular city attractions can be found in a 5 block radius. The New Westminster Quay Public Market is a great place to walk around and shop for fresh local foods. Right next to the market there is an old fashioned River Boat Casino to satisfy anyone's gambling needs. Queens Park is a beautiful park and recreational centre with fields and arenas for every sport. So whether checking out the river side city centre or taking a stroll through a historic neighborhood New Westminster is a uniquely beautiful experience.
