West Vancouver

West Vancouver is located across the Burrard Inlet from Vancouver on the North Shore and sits to the West of North Vancouver. The famous Lions Gate Bridge separates West Vancouver from Vancouver and is the main commuting route for residents that work in Vancouver, the other options are the sea bus and the Iron Workers Memorial Bridge both of which are located in neighboring North Vancouver. Access into West Vancouver from the North is done through the Sea to Sky Highway which connects the Lower Mainland to Squamish and Whistler, as well B.C. Ferries operates out of Horseshoe Bay and has frequent trips to and from Nanaimo, Bowen Island, and the Sunshine Coast.

Being that West Vancouver sits in the shadows of the North Shore Mountains and is actually on the slope of the mountain the climate is much different then Vancouver's and is actually quite unique. The clouds often linger in the area far after they have cleared from the Vancouver sky and thus West Vancouver has more precipitation then its cross the water neighbor, and being up on the mountain part of West Vancouver gets more snow then the rest of the community depending on the elevation.

West Vancouverites have the ability to enjoy every possible recreational activity that British Columbia is known for without having to leave there own backyard. You can ski, snowboard, mountain bike, and hike on Cypress and Hollyburn Mountains, you can canoe, kayak, sail, windsurf, and scuba dive along the Burrard Inlet or in one of the many coves, or you can enjoy world class shopping and dining along Marine Drive or in Park Royal. Whatever it is you want to do you can do it here and some people combine many of the above options and do it all in the same day, there aren't many places in the world where you can ski in the morning, kayak in the afternoon, and eat a fantastic meal on an ocean front patio in the evening but West Vancouver offers this all year round.
